Role overview:

We’re looking for an experienced Android Developer to join our mobile team and contribute to the development of our native app in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose for our Android customers.

You'll be pragmatic, have a great product-mindset while keeping our users at the heart of how you think, and have a passion for excellent UI and UX. You have experience building beautiful and scalable Apps and are excited about using best-in-class frameworks, techniques and keeping pace with the newest technologies as they emerge.

We’ve grown rapidly over the last twenty four months and we’ve already built a best-in-class product and mobile experience, both for our customers and for our internal teams; and we’re now ready to supercharge our growth.

This is a unique opportunity to make significant contributions to an App that is less than a year old, using the latest and greatest Android features and frameworks, and push it to our growing base of thousands of customers. There’s still so much to do and learn, in every aspect of Honest Mobile — we’re only just beginning our journey!

In this role, you’ll:

• Collaborate with other developers and members of the product team to scope out features and user experience journeys, and to build them in 100% full fat native Kotlin code
• Work within our coding sprints to bring those features to life and deploy them fast for real world users and to gather feedback in order to continually improve
• Share your passion for best in class mobile App design and best practice and continually polish your craft by keeping up-to-date with the latest frameworks and tools
• Collaborate with other engineers and designers to build our design system and component library for scale
• Improve the performance and accessibility of our apps

About you:

• You have experience working in dynamic, fast-paced agile environments where you delivered features and updates for apps serving a large user base. You are adept at balancing the need for rapid delivery with maintaining high standards of quality and reliability.
• You’re excited about what we’re doing! We’re a technology company working in a very traditional industry and that gives us a huge opportunity to build something truly different
• We’re still a small team, so you’ll be involved in everything and are excited to learn about all aspects of our stack, our product and our existing team
• You care about the users we are creating products for, are happy to speak to them directly, and love turning designs into beautiful products
• You are comfortable in the face of ambiguity and are happy to take on problems without a clear definition or solution
• You are comfortable putting something out there when it’s not-perfectly-polished to gather feedback, whether that’s an MVP of a feature, a draft of a proposal, or your thoughts on a design
• You care about the team and culture we are building, and understand the importance of giving feedback and supporting others around you

Engineering at Honest

We’ve built a modern and feature-rich API on Nest.JS, a powerful database architecture, and a host of smart and innovative technology platforms to help us achieve super-scale.

We use Typescript for the majority of our backend work, and follow industry best practices to guide our software development lifecycle. On occasion we break out Python for quick scripting tasks, and utilise other tools in our toolbox to get the job done.

As a team, we challenge ourselves to do great work. We collaborate closely to review each other’s code and deliver constructive feedback, to ensure that we use our collective experience, and knowledge to achieve the best results.

• Take home task
• Final Interview in-person:

1. 1-2 hour whiteboarding session
2. 30 min break
3. 1 hour values interview
