Description

The Windreich Department of Artificial Intelligence and Human Health (AIHH) at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai leads a pioneering collaboration with the Charles Bronfman Institute for Personalized Medicine (CBIPM) and the Hasso Plattner Institute for Digital Health (HPIMS) to transform the future of health care. Together, these three entities form a unified ecosystem that integrates advanced AI-driven diagnostics, large-scale clinical research, and cutting-edge digital innovation to accelerate scientific discovery and deliver meaningful improvements in patient care and health systems worldwide.

The Financial Manager I has oversight of all financial and related activities for a large and complex institute, department, center or unit. Manages departmental financial office; performs analyses to identify revenue collection problems and other trends.



Responsibilities

The Finance Manager will be responsible for comprehensive financial and accounting oversight for AIHH, CBIPM, and HPIMS. Reporting directly to the Senior Director of Operations, the Finance Manager will collaborate closely with the AIHH/CBIPM/HPIMS Grants Team, faculty, staff, students, and institutional leadership. The role requires a strategic thinker with strong analytical capabilities and excellent interpersonal skills to support a dynamic and interdisciplinary research environment.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Manage and update Department and Institute financial portfolios, including spend tracking, projections, and personnel allocations.
  • Meet regularly with Department and Institute leadership, faculty, and staff to provide detailed financial updates and analysis.
  • Create projections and financial models for various funding streams, including NIH grants, industry contracts, philanthropic funds, and internal operating budgets.
  • Provide recommendations for budget allocations and adjustments based on financial forecasts and funding availability.
  • Conduct year-over-year cost analyses to evaluate programmatic efficiency and identify trends.
  • Lead yearly financial budget planning and reporting in partnership with Department and Institute leadership and the AIHH/CBIPM/HPIMS Grants Team under the guidance of institutional leadership.
  • Review and evaluate funding requests, providing recommendations for approval based on fiscal responsibility and strategic alignment.
  • Ensure coordination between specific program appropriations and broader Department and Institute financial goals.
  • Lead the preparation of recurring and ad hoc budget reports, interpret financial guidelines, and help establish related policies.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts by helping implement or refine financial and grant management systems and make recommendations to implement effective change.
  • Perform additional finance-related duties as needed.


Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree required, Masters degree preferred
  • 5 years of directly related experience
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel; familiarity with financial reporting tools and systems preferred.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and best practices in research and grant funding.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
