Job Title: Artificial Intelligence Engineer

Reports To: Executive Director, AI Center of Excellence (AICE)

Capitol Artificial Intelligence Learning and Innovation Environment (CAILIE) Overview:

Capitol Tech University has invested over $1.3M in GPU infrastructure, including (24) Nvidia

H200 GPUs, 400Gbps RoCE networking, and 200TB of NVMe storage. The lab infrastructure

will be based on open-source technologies including Linux and Kubernetes. We are looking for

passionate infrastructure and AI engineers to help build-out our lab with new capabilities that

allow our researchers and students to train, evaluate, and integrate complex workflow agents into

different projects across the university.


Position Summary:

The Artificial Intelligence Engineer is responsible for the architecture, design, and overall

strategic direction of the Capitol Artificial Intelligence Learning and Innovation Environment

(CAILIE). This role involves overseeing the technical setup and ongoing management of

advanced AI infrastructure, ensuring that the lab meets the research and educational needs of the

university's students, faculty, and industry partners.


Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the design and implementation of the CAILIE’s technical architecture, including

hardware, software, and networking components.

• Collaborate with faculty, students, and industry partners to identify and meet the lab’s

evolving technical requirements.

• Develop and maintain a strategic roadmap for the CAILIE, aligning with the university’s

long-term goals in AI research and education.

• Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to integrate new technologies and

tools that enhance the lab's capabilities.

• Ensure the security, reliability, and scalability of AI systems and infrastructure within the

lab.

• Supervise and mentor junior technical staff, providing guidance and expertise on complex

technical challenges.

• Manage the budget and procurement processes for the lab's technical resources.


Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; a

Master’s degree is preferred.

• High proficiency in Linux operating system (Debian-based distros) and Kubernetes.

• 7+ years of experience in IT infrastructure design and management, with a focus on AI,

high-performance computing, or cloud-based environments

• Proven experience in leading technical projects from concept to completion.

• Strong knowledge of AI frameworks, GPU computing, and data center operations.

• Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills.


Salary Range:

Based on current market rates, the salary for this position typically ranges from $110,000 to

$130,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
