Walter Surface Technologies, a manufacturer of specialty products for the metalworking industry, is looking for a Robotic Applications Technician to support its North American operations. About the Role
Walter is seeking a motivated and hands-on Robotic Applications Technician to lead operations at our state-of-the-art Robotic Material Removal Lab. This lab is a center for innovation, focused on developing, testing, and showcasing robotic finishing processes for customers. In this role, you will apply your technical skills to develop robotic material removal processes, run customer demonstrations, and ensure the lab is fully equipped to support advanced robotic applications using Walter and PushCorp technologies.
Responsibilities
- Customer Demonstrations: Prepare and execute weekly robotic automation demos
- Schedule, scope, and plan demo activities in collaboration with Sales Engineers, Abrasive Experts, and Lab Manager
- Host customers during in-person visits: explain equipment, processes, and outcomes
- Implement customer feedback to achieve desired finishes or outcomes
- Coordinate post-demo activities including reporting, thorough written documentation, application videos, return shipment of parts, and post demo meetings.
- Manage Daily Lab Operations: Oversee the daily functions of Walter’s robotic material removal lab
- Set up robotic systems, part fixturing, Walter abrasives, and PushCorp tooling
- Program Industrial Robots
- Maintain a well-equipped lab environment with the right tools, equipment, and configuration to support testing and demonstrations
- Ensure safety, efficiency, and readiness for demonstrations and testing
- Training and Education: Deliver hands-on training to customers and internal teams on robotic equipment, system operation, and best practices
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with factory and engineering teams to ensure alignment between lab activities and broader manufacturing capabilities
- Product Support: Contribute to the success of Walter’s robotic consumables portfolio by supporting strategic plans and hands-on testing
- Attend 2-3 tradeshows per year to support Sales activities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong technical skills in robotics programming.
- Experience with process development for manufacturing, troubleshooting, and creative problem-solving
- Ability to analyze product and customer requirements, propose improvements, and implement effective solutions
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts clearly to a variety of audiences
- Highly organized
- Detail-oriented
- Comfortable working hands-on in a lab environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Suite and general computer applications
Experience and Education
- College or University degree in robotics, automation, or a related technical field. Pertinent related work experience in the robotics field will be considered.
- Proven experience programming industrial robots in an automation or manufacturing environment (ABB preferred).
- Bilingual in French & English both verbal & written due to interactions with internal & external international customers.
- Occasional travel, as per business needs.
